How to backup iPod?

Introduction.

iPod is one of the most popular portable players. We often purchase music and copy it to our iPod for listening, but the standard tools for this player, like iTunes, do not allow us to copy the music in the other direction. So what if you have lost your purchased album or track on the computer and still have its copy on your player? How can you copy music from iPod?

We will use an iPod backup tool, ImTOO iPod Computer Transfer, to accomplish this.

Step 1: Download and install the program.

Download ImTOO iPod Computer Transfer to a known location. Run the downloaded setup and follow its instructions to install the program.

Step 2: Start the program. Select music files on iPod to backup.

Launch the installed program and connect your iPod. The main window will be shown:

Information about the connected device is shown in the window. Brief statistics are available, too. The interface is rather clean and intuitive, here you can do only two things so far: select what and where to copy.

In the left part of the iPod copy software window, there is a column with the playlists available on your player. Simply click one of them or the general "Music" chapter and check all audio tracks that you want to back up.

Each song can be previewed with the internal player. If you are going to copy the entire music collection from your iPod to the computer, just click "Select all" at the top and hit the "Copy files to computer" button in the lower part of the window, as shown on the first screenshot.

Step 3: Backup iPod music.

A usual "Browse" dialog will appear. Select the folder where you want your iPod files to be copied to and click "OK" to proceed.

A progress bar will be shown at the bottom of the program window. It helps you estimate how much time is required for the selected songs to be copied from your iPod to the computer.
