How to find MP3 duplicates by sound?
Introduction.
MP3 is one of the most popular audio formats. It's part of the MPEG standard (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III, MPEG-2 Audio Layer III). MP3 files are supported by most devices that are capable of playing audio, including DVD players, mobile phones, etc. The MP3 format is often used to store music, sound tracks, audio books, and other sorts of audio content.
Many people collect MP3 files. However, most such collections inevitably accumulate duplicates. Duplicates are unwanted copies of the same songs / audio records. If their filenames or tags are similar, one can at least recognize them. But sometimes duplicates have different filenames and may include no tags. Besides, they may have different technical parameters (bitrate, frequency, etc.).
Music Duplicate Remover can find MP3 duplicates by "listening" to files. As a result, the program does not require your files to have the same filenames, ID3 tags or technical parameters. In fact, it can also find duplicates in different formats.
Step 1: Download and install the program.
Download Music Duplicate Remover to your computer and start the file. Follow instructions of the setup wizard to install the MP3 duplicate finder.
Step 2: Start the program. Scan folders with MP3 files.
Launch Music Duplicate Remover. Its main window will be shown:
In the "Folder structure" area on the left, folders of your computer are shown. Select the ones that you want to scan for duplicates.
From the "Compare" dropdown list, select "By sound":
Now click the "Find duplicates" button on the toolbar of the program.
Step 3: Delete MP3 duplicates.
Music Duplicate Remover starts scanning and comparing your MP3 files. This may take some time.
Finally, the program shows a message:
Click "OK" to close it. Now you can review and delete your MP3 duplicates:
Click the "Remove duplicates" button to delete the selected duplicates. Alternatively, you can check the files first, choose which ones to keep, adjust settings (for example, to prefer high-bitrate files), etc.
The free trial version of Music Duplicate Remover finds all duplicates, but only 10 of them can be deleted from the program. If you like the program, just register it and remove this limitation.
